20 minutes: blood pressure and heart rate drop back to normal
5 years: risk of lung cancer is cut in half
10-15 years: risk of stroke and heart attack will become similar

Cigarette Smoking and American Indians/Alaska Natives
•American Indian or Alaska Native adults (27.2%) were more likely than white adults (20.9%), black adults (20.7%), and Asian adults (10.9%) to be current smokers. Center for Disease Control, Vital and Health Statistics, Series 10, Number 245, March 2010.
•Cigarette smoking is the number one cause of preventable death among AI/AN people.
•Tobacco-related diseases and death rates among AI/AN people are double that of other ethnic groups.
•American Indian women are the only group in the United States who smoke more cigarettes now than they did 20 years ago.
•Cigarette smoking is a major contributor of heart disease and cancer-related deaths, (especially lung cancer) among the American Indian population.
